Open communication and listening – really listening – has always been a guiding principle for VSP. So as you can imagine, I’m excited to launch our VSP blog and have even more direct two-way conversations with our members, clients, doctors, employees, and anyone who has thoughts to share about vision, eye health, and healthcare benefits in general.
For me, this blog is a natural next step in VSP’s commitment to a dynamic dialogue with our communities. Of course, the company was founded in 1955, long before the advent of the Internet, but throughout our history VSP has remained focused on quality eyecare with an open ear for what it takes to deliver the best service and support to our members and business partners. It is through listening and communication with our 48 million members that VSP has been ranked “highest in member satisfaction among national vision plans” for a third consecutive year by J.D. Power and Associates. And, by giving a voice to our employees, VSP has remained in the top 25 of FORTUNE Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” for seven consecutive years.
In guiding VSP through our future growth and success, I plan to use this blog to share my thoughts and ideas about eyecare, total wellness, the insurance industry, leadership and managing good people. I look forward to inviting “guest bloggers” who share my passion and offer different perspectives on these subjects, and I hope to inspire an open dialogue with you.
I’m looking forward to hearing what you have to say.
Rob

hmmmm…very interesting! Thanks google
Your blog appears to be self serving. You might put more effort into customer satisfaction in lieu of telling us about how wonderful you are.
I am aggravated by the fact that I have no choice as to the lab I would like to use for Signature Choice & gift certificate claims. I understand the good that comes from the "community services" you offer. But, why should I be forced to use a lab I don’t want to use. It’s not fair to my patients or my community. The lab I use is local, close enough that I can pick things up and/or drop them off if necessary. I certainly can’t drive to Columbus. I currently carry Altair frames, but now I wonder how long it will be before we are forced to sell only Altair frames to either certain plans or to all VSP plans. I don’t know, maybe the plan for VSP is to make it so only there labs can be used. It’s just not right.
I have been a member of VSP for 17 years. VSP is the lowest paying plan that I accept (even welfare in my state pays $35 dollars more for an exam). I refuse to accept the reimbursement of any other VSP plan besides the Standard plan. VSP also takes more of my staff time than any other insurance. In the last several years I have not received an increase in reimbursements from VSP. In that time all my costs have gone up (payroll, insurance, utilities, etc). As I listen to all the accolades that you say that VSP has received…..I wonder if you have forgotten what makes your company as great as you say…..the doctors. Why not compensate the doctors fairly? Obviously, you treat your own employees fairly and compensate them well (maybe too well?) Just my two cents.
Rob, I have been on and off VSP since my first license in 1982. When I was first on VSP, I was excited, it was OD controlled, the fees were half way reasonable. Heck, I even volunteered for peer review, mainly to learn how to run an optometric office. I was off VSP from 1988 to 1998. I can honestly say, VSP has hurt my practice more than has helped it in the last 9 years. VSP has taken away business from other insurance companies that I was better reinbursed. VSP has not kept up with the cost of living in my area. VSP consumes more of my staff time to work with and I am not reinbursed for the extra staff time required. Gee, I am better reinbursed by the Medicaid department in the state, takes less time for paperwork, and I do not have the hassles. Medicaid is a subsidized program and VSP should be paying more than a Medicaid exam in the market place. VSP would like to have their doctors on 24 hour call, yet will not reinburse the doctors for their time for being on call for their patients. Is that fair.Well, these are my personal thoughts on VSP after being in practice for so many years. Sincerely,Susan L.Cotter, O.D.
