VSP aligns with the American Diabetes Association

I am happy to announce that this week VSP has entered into a 3 year sponsorship with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) as a National Strategic Partner.

This sponsorship is truly the next step for VSP in spreading the awareness about the importance of annual eye exams. Comprehensive eye exams can detect the signs of several chronic diseases including diabetes, in addition to serious eye conditions.

Diabetes is the leading cause of vision loss in American adults, but 90 percent of diabetes-related blindness can be avoided with annual eye exams.

Some highlights of the partnership include sponsorship of ADA Diabetes EXPOs around the country, which reaches thousands of people affected by diabetes. Our mobile eyecare clinics will provide comprehensive eye exams to low income and uninsured participants.

We’ll also host an “Ask the Eye Doctor” chat series on the ADA website addressing questions consumers have in regards to eye health, eyecare and its relation to diabetes.

This partnership is an asset to our current services for members with diabetes. We provide resources to help coordinate care, exam reminders, and educational materials.

How has diabetes affected you as a patient, doctor or family member?

a couple of months ago I enrolled into VSP. I subscribed foir one year with one of my credit cards. I did not get any kind of follow-up for several weeks. Then a charge appeared from an insurance co in Cleveland without info on the purpose or a phone number to inquire about the nature or the appropriateness of the charge. I called my CC which switched me from place to place, finally to a complaint section. A week later I received a letter telling me they will investigate. A month later the charge reappeared still with no info on its purpose or origin. New calls almost an hour to be sent back to the complaint department. Someone maybe by mistake pronounced the word Vision whch I connected with VSP. Another problem there, Remembering I had paid several months ago I used a VSP postcard to get to their site not without alarming several of my providers. Despite copying my name as typed on their card and entering the lasr 4 digits of my SS I was told repeatedly that I was niot recognize. I called them, was switched from peoiple to people and numbers to numbers , called my university for help. Several days later I am still waiting. Wall to wall incompetence, time and money wasting We meet such incompetence with an alarming frequency, should not we unite? We need young blood sharp teeth to rid us from the the horse product of which Hercules endeavored to clean their stables.

I think this is great. People don’t realize how both of these go hand in hand.

Dr. Lynch,Please be aware that I have filed a complaint with the Kansas Insurance commission today as detailed with the following attachment. I am disappointed in the service that you provide and as a VP in a global company I will be using my personal experiences as a basis for future provider selection. Please review my claimm and settle in a timely manner without any more spurious delays.Best Regards -Fran StrikerYour complaint has been sent to the Kansas Insurance Department. You should receive a response to your complaint by a KID representative within 10 days. You may wish to print this page for your records. Maralee files out-of network claim with VSP on 5/5/2008 (evidenced by fax header from VSP on return receipt.) Om 5/8/2008 a letter was received from VSP that we were ineligible for coverage. Maralee called and spoke to Elvis who said we were covered since October and didn’t know why the claim was denied. He asked for the phone number for Costco which is not only on the claim that was received by VSP but also irrelevant since the claim was filed by us. The rep called back and said they lost the phone number so he was given the number again. Weeks later, hearing nothing from VSP, Maralee got on web site for web based "chat" with Migual Martinez who said he would "take care of it." On 6/2/2008 a letter was received from Miguel stating that the Costco person refused to assist him and that at this point he needs us to resubmit our claim. This is clearly a case of an insurance company trying to shirk from their provider requirements and drag their feet, deny a claim with no basis on several occasions. I am requesting that VSP be required to settle the claim without further delay and that they are fined for their illegal and immoral conduct.Complaintant agreed to the following:The Insurance Commissioner is authorized to send a copy of this complaint and any follow-up documents to any insurance company or agent/agency in order to investigate my concerns. I authorize the release of all relevant information, including medical records, to the Insurance Commissioner’s office for its review of this matter.
