Case Of The Little Black Shirt

Brian and his little black shirt

Brian B. is a member of VSP's Member Services team.

As you know from a previous post, I enjoy riding public transit every morning. I have been riding Regional Transit long enough to get to know some of the faces, but typically except for a polite, “good morning” there is not very much interaction. That changed a little this morning, when someone that I see often, walked up to me and introduced himself as “Martin.” He was compelled to talk with me because I was wearing my VSP branded t-shirt.

Over the next 15 minutes or so, Martin explained all the wonderful things he has heard about VSP. I explained what I do for VSP and what it’s like in Customer Service, a point of view that is not always heard from. I am not trying to brag, but I do feel very proud when I am able to tell people who I work for. That has not always been the case with past employers. I remind myself of this on a regular basis. He showed an interest in working for VSP and wanted to know more about the company. I offered to answer any questions that I could and I advised that job postings are listed on our company Web site. The conversation would have continued if I had not reached the building.

I cannot explain how good it feels to work for a company that inspires someone to introduce themselves to me because of a little black t-shirt.

Haha Brian that sounds like me, like something I would do. But i did not follow you onto the bus, and my name is Katrine Studdavich anyway. I ride that bus and as I’ve said before i can just “tell” when someone works at VSP. Usually because they get off at the VSP stop, but occasionally I can tell because they are wearing sunglasses, a smile, and work appropriate attire. Very cool story, it is obvious you really love your work as well as who you work for.
