Sometimes hope comes from unexpected places, like a child’s wish. Charlotte is a 9-year-old from Modesto, CA, who lives with a heart condition, gene mutation, and blindness in one eye. Like many kids her age, she enjoys ballet and gymnastics. But, from a young age, she’s also had the burden of many doctor appointments, hospital stays and surgeries.
To lift Charlotte’s spirits, Make-A-Wish teamed up with VSP to grant Charlotte’s wish for a family vacation to Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii. There, she’ll learn to snorkel and hula, and get to spend some time with some of her favorite Disney characters. Best of all, she’ll share the experience with her brother, sister, mom and dad.
Making the wish reveal a surprise added to the fun!
VSP Vision Care President Kate Renwick-Espinosa, who is a board member for the Northeastern California and Northern Nevada chapter of Make-A-Wish, invited Charlotte and her family to VSP Global headquarters for lunch in December. After getting to know each other over pizza, Kate invited Charlotte to join her for dessert in the employee cafeteria. As they arrived, Charlotte was joyfully greeted by hundreds of VSP employees and her relatives and friends, all dressed in Hawaiian-themed attire and leis.
Watch as Charlotte discovers that her wish is about to come true! Her reaction – priceless.
“It was overwhelming to provide such joy to Charlotte and her family simply by granting this wish,” said Kate. “I couldn’t be more proud or honored to be part of a team that cares so deeply for our community.”
To help grant other kids’ wishes, employees also raised more than $10,000 through on-campus fundraisers.
