VSP Global and the Sacramento Kings share a commitment to helping transform Sacramento into a hub for technology and an incubator for innovation. In fact, VSP Global’s President and CEO, Jim McGrann, and one of the team’s most unique players, Willie Cauley-Stein, became friends over their shared passion for innovation and the momentum in the region.
Recently, Willie teamed up with VSP to put on an innovation day camp for students at Cordova High School. The half-day challenge encouraged students to brainstorm and present fashion-inspired entrepreneurial ideas to the NBA star. A little known fact, Willie has a flare for art, fashion, and design. Off the court, he recently designed his own line of wrist watches and continues to look toward the future as he explores opportunities to launch his own clothing line.
The design thinking session allowed the students to tap into their imagination, intuition, and systemic reasoning. The program was facilitated by VSP’s innovation lab, The Shop, which leverages design thinking throughout its efforts to develop technologies for the physical and digital aspects of eyewear and eye care.
