NFL linebacker Von Miller, who started wearing glasses in grade school, founded Von’s Vision to bring the gift of sight to Denver-area children from low-income households. In July 2015, he partnered with VSP Mobile Eyes, an Eyes of Hope program, for Von’s Vision Day on the Sunnyside campus of STRIVE Prep, part of the Denver Public Schools system.
Together, we provided access to no-cost eye exams and glasses for 241 children and their family members in need! Of the children who received eye exams that day, 40 had never before worn glasses and 70% of the students received their new prescription glasses the same day. Three of the children needed bifocals, and another eight were referred to eye doctors or their primary care physician for follow-up care.
More than 30 VSP Optics Group employee volunteers traveled to Denver work on board the three VSP Mobile Eyes clinics, and Marchon Eyewear provided all the students who participated with Nike suns to protect their eyes and Reading Is Fundamental books in a book bag.
