Top 5 Eyewear Moments at the 2015 Oscars

By on

The eyes had it at this year’s Oscars.

And by “it” we mean enviable eyewear, naturally.

Sure, Birdman and Budapest cleaned up when it came to the golden statues.

And while we love a good NPH musical number (not to mention Lady Gaga’s swoon-worthy Sound of Music homage), our eagle eyes were trained on the star-studded crowd for bridges, temples, end pieces and lenses in a dizzying array of shapes, styles and colors.

Spotting celebrity frames has become something of an obsession a hobby for us (see Golden Globes and Emmy posts of yore).

And so in the spirit of that same great red-carpet tradition, we offer up our take on the Top 5 Eyewear Moments at the 2015 Oscars below.

To help you snag each celeb’s eyewear style, we’ve included  tips for how you can emulate the looks with fashion-forward frames from Marchon and Altair. Don’t forget: Most VSP members receive an extra $20 to spend toward featured Marchon and Altair brands when applying their benefits!

Hello, Hollywood…

Jeff Goldblum 2015 Oscars

Trend Alert: Square, Thick-Rimmed
Goldbum is no stranger to a great pair of frames. We’ve seen him sporting everything from circular, to clear, to ombré and nearly every style in between. For the Oscars, he offset a bold, white tuxedo with a simple pair of black, thick-rimmed frames. The only flourish? An elegant hinge detail. Lookin’ fly.

Steve Carell 2015 Oscars

Trend Alert: Oval, Horn-Rimmed, Ombré
A Best Actor nominee, the funnyman took a dramatic turn last year and delivered a chilling performance in Foxcatcher. On the red carpet, Carell caught our eyes in these two-toned frames with rivet detailing in the corners and a slightly thicker bridge. In a word: Foxy.
Get the Look: Embrace the ombré with these Nike 7203 frames in Dark Tortoise/Crystal Clear. (Click HERE to find a doctor in your area who carries Nike!)

Patricia Arquette 2015 Oscars

Trend Alert: Cat-Eye, Metal Temples
The lone lady on our list this year, Arquette took home an Oscar–and our hearts–with a soaring acceptance speech that called for wage equality in the industry. Even better? Her delivery was accented by these rose-colored cat-eye frames that are both feminine and fierce. Hollywood, hear her roar.

Jason Schwartzman

Trend Alert: Rounded, Rivets
Another white-tux-wearing rebel, Schwartzman mirrored Jeff Goldblum’s sartorial statement, down to the simple frames. We like the slightly rounded variation, with simple rivet details.
Get the Look: Altair Evolution’s A4501 in black will give you just the indie flare you need. (Click HERE to find a doctor in your area who carries Altair Evolution!)

Bruce Dern 2015 Oscars

Trend Alert: Rimless
The Derns are Hollywood royalty. And it warmed our hearts to see this veteran actor strolling the red carpet with daughter (and Supporting Actress nominee) Laura. For such an iconic face, lightly tousled by time and crowned by whisps of white hair, these rimless frames provide a delicate balance across the brow of this living legend.

    Very well done!!

  • Jim says:

Bruce Derns is the best but I like frameless and most executives and senior officers wear that type and they are certainly better to emulate than brainless Hollywood types.

I like Patricia red cat eye wear, just not that big

  • Belinda Ky says:

I wear various pairs of Rx glasses in different colors and styles to change up with my wardrobe! I love my purple Cat-Eye glasses by OGI Eyewear…and, my Two Toned glasses as seen and worn on CSI (the TV show!) that are made by l.a. Eyeworks. It’s fun to mix it on a daily basis…I alternate my glasses on a daily basis (providing my prescription has not changed enough to warrant not wearing them any longer!) 😎
