5 Eyewear Trends Inspired by 2016 Golden Globes Fashion

UPDATE: See our Top 5 Eyewear Trends inspired by the 2016 Academy Awards!

Hollywood’s second-biggest night has come and gone, but 2016 Golden Globes fashion will live forever!

Or at least until the next red carpet.

Sunday night featured more than a few surprise winners (Lady Gaga, anyone?) and some searing humor from host Ricky Gervais (ouch, Mel Gibson).

But as usual, our eyes were trained on the red carpet to see what sartorial trends emerged on the backs of Hollywood’s A-Listers.

Herewith, we name our Top 5 trends and how everyday mortals—yes, you!—can embody each style with frames from Eyeconic, VSP’s fully redesigned, in-network online eyewear retailer.

And remember, most VSP members will receive an extra $20 to spend on their frame benefit when they select featured Marchon and Altair frame brands from VSP Providers across the country!

2016 Golden Globes eyewear trends yellow

TREND: Not-So-Mellow Yellow
Here comes the sun. Stars like Jennifer Lopez, America Ferrera and Lola Kirke glowed in the attention-grabbing color, which in fashion often swings from luscious butterscotch to electric lemon. True, not everyone can pull of such a daring choice. But when it works and the occasion calls for a statement shade, don’t be afraid to say it: Hello, yellow.
EMULATE WITH EYEWEAR: Ladies, go for sunny and shady at the same time with some sun-kissed stunners in yellow.

2016 Golden Globes eyewear trends sparkle

TREND: Sparkle
Besides the bling that usually adorns the appendages of red-carpet walkers, it was the clothes this year that truly shined with disco-infused splendor. Case in point: Kate Bosworth in head-to-toe pink sequins, while other glittering gals like Viola Davis, Uzo Aduba and Brie Larson were sparkle incarnate in blue, black and gold, respectively.
EMULATE WITH EYEWEAR: Bring the bling with icy-cool crystals on your shades.

2016 Golden Globes eyewear trends feeling blue

TREND: Feeling Blue
Move over, Picasso. We have officially entered a blue period in Hollywood and it’s anything but depressing. The color of the night manifested in various shades of the moody hue, from Queen Latifah’s powder to Kate Winslet’s royal and everything in between. It was especially refreshing to see the color worn as midnight beneath ample sparkle (another big trend), courtesy of Julianne Moore and Melissa McCarthy.
EMULATE WITH EYEWEAR: Keep cool and stay true blue with cat eye optical styles in the shade.

2016 Golden Globes eyewear trends white

TREND: Winter White
What would be a faux pas at most weddings was de rigueur for Globes guests on Sunday. White-hot actresses from Laverne Cox and Jane Fonda to Taraji P. Henson were pure elegance, showing that white done right can be as bold a look as any color on the spectrum.
EMULATE WITH EYEWEAR: Fight for your white to accessorize with white and cream frames.

2016 Golden Globes eyewear trends gentlemens details

TREND: Gentlemen’s Details
Most men opt for the traditional black tux, while other stand-out stars go for the bold with patterns that set ’em apart from the pack. For the guys on Sunday, it was all in the details. Think: David Oyelowo in eggplant squares; Eddie Redmayne in polka dots; and even host Ricky Gervais in a dark houndstooth jacket.
EMULATE WITH EYEWEAR: Guys, go for eye-catching texture and detail in brown slate.

Who makes the frames Michael Keaton wore at the 2016 golden globes?

    Thanks in advance

  • Matt says:

I think those are like the ones he wore in 2015. The frames he wore this year are more square, black and had metal detail on the sides.
