Do your eyes dilate when you are attracted to someone?

By on

When you think about your eyes dilating, you might recall what takes place during an eye exam. Your eye doctor may dilate your eyes, or make your pupils wider, to take a closer look at the blood vessels in the back of your eye to better understand your overall health. However, our eyes naturally dilate every day to adjust how much light comes in through the lens of the eye and to help us focus. When we have a physiological response, such as fear, surprise, or attraction, this can also make our pupil bigger. The dilation of the pupils is also referred to as mydriasis.

So, it turns out the “look of love” might actually be a real thing. The next time you’re with your significant other, keep the following in mind.

The iris muscles, which are responsible for the dilation of the pupil, are controlled by the autonomic nervous system. So, just like those unexpected and uncontrollable butterflies you might feel for someone, a visible tell of someone’s feelings for you might be in their eyes. Studies have shown that when viewing images of someone that you find attractive it can illicit a nonverbal response of pupil dilation.

I did it on my boyfriend but his eyes stayed the same but he wears glasses. Does the glasses have anything to do with the dilation?

… *most. And I tried this. Its just like any muscle in your body(it is a muscle) if you’ve never noticed this, you’d think it could only be one way because your used to seeing things one way, but when you think about it, hormones and how feelings(happiness, attraction*, depression) can affect it, it makes sense, I’ve done it with family members(because I knew it would work, and it did.) it can be directly sensory when you dont stress too much( I used to stress out alot before..) but now am trying to change that and relax more, and my pupils have dilated naturally; they are around 50:50 size compared to my iris but could also go more. I’m pretty happy and learned to stress a lot less. Negativity can greatly impact your mood and these are just natural indicators;etc… idk it makes sense to me; that’s my reasoning..

Haha I recently developed a little observational habit of looking into people’s eyes and combined with my examination of their behavior, I can now tell who is actually interested in me. It’s a very quick look into their eyes, and not like staring. I do it in an unnoticeable way do they don’t know they are being exposed in my brain haha!
