Eye Health Index: Top 10 Eye-Healthy Cities for 2014

By on

A recent in-depth analysis of tens of millions of VSP Vision Care claims shows that residents of Boise, Idaho, take the best care of their eyes. The results were highlighted in the 2014 Eye Health Index that VSP puts out annually. The study analyzed and ranked the percentage of VSP members in any given area who got an eye exam in 2013. The cities where residents got the most eye exams ranked the highest on the index.

Strong Performers

Oklahoma City and Birmingham maintained rankings on the 2014 Eye Health Index. These two, along with Denver, were the only cities to make the Index every year since its inception. Newcomer Reno made a strong debut along with other inaugural rankings from Huntsville, Colorado Springs, Little Rock and Evansville.

Eye Exams and Your Health

In addition to helping identify vision correction needs, eye exams also help ensure that the eyes and body are healthy, as eye doctors are often first to detect signs of serious health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Did your city make the list? Check out the infographic below to find out! If you didn’t make the list, be sure to make getting an eye exam part of your healthcare routine.
