In loving memory of Uncle Frank.
Dr. Frank Fontana—better known as Uncle Frank to colleagues and friends—was 95. He worked as an optometrist for 66 years. Why? In his words, “Because I love my work. Anything else bores me to death.”
Dr. Fontana graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1949. He was educated through the G.I. bill after serving in the U.S. Army for three years. He started his own practice in 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri, and is a pioneer in fitting contact lenses.
We were fortunate enough to sit down with Dr. Fontana to talk about his life’s work. Here is a look back at his story.
