I think we can all agree that sometimes life gets us down, and getting back up on our feet is the hardest thing any of us have to do. Thankfully, there are helping hands available when we need it most.
Recently our VSP Mobile Eyes team took the mobile clinic, Eyenstein, on a trip to New York City for the Street Soccer USA (SSUSA) National Cup to provide free eyecare and eyewear to soccer players in need. The soccer players are inspiring individuals who are, in more ways than one, admirable. Each individual story is unique, but the one thing they do have in common is soccer.
With the support of the SSUSA, these now well-skilled soccer players have overcome homelessness. In addition, they make it a point to give back to our local communities and help others overcome a similar situation by showing them how the game of soccer can help change lives.
Even with all the good they have done for themselves and others, many of these same soccer players are uninsured and cannot afford a proper eye exam, let alone the correct prescriptive glasses they need. And every athlete’s parent know that if you’re going to play soccer, then proper care is needed to ensure good eye-body coordination. Well, that’s where we thought we can lend a helping hand.
Take Jimmy (he’s the famous headline picture on this blog); He’s a SSUSA soccer player who turned his life around. Before we went out and met him at the SSUSA National Cup in NYC, he had never received proper eyecare. Jimmy expressed to our team that before VSP made his new glasses, he couldn’t see anything.
Well, we’re here to help you see!
